Exodus
Leviticus
Philip asked the Ethiopian Eunuch, "Do you understand what you're reading?" The Ethiopian's reply could characterize us all. "How can I," he said, "unless someone guides me?" (Acts 8:30-31)
Mother, father, teacher, friends, mentors...all of us needed the instructions of another human to get where we are today. Paul commented on this very issue when he asked, "But how can they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe without hearing about Him? And how can they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14)
The church I pastor is filling steadily with new converts, many of whom have never been exposed to biblical thought or theological vocabulary. In an attempt to serve them, I have disciplined myself to gathering here in Biblical order the various devotionals, sermons, commentary and artwork that I have accumulated as I have tried to disciple them. That way, as young (or old) Christians read through their Bibles, they can have someone alongside, helping them sort out the meaning and application of what they are reading.
Paul advocates that we show family affection to one another; outdo one another in showing honor (Romans 12:10); give respect to those who deserve it, and honor those to whom we owe it (Romans 13:7). I would like to gratefully acknowledge the many, many hours of work this project represents for my secretary Mindy Warren, without whom I would probably be stumbling about in my slippers.
