Avoiding Accountability
Complacency will be a
believer’s undoing. It is only when we not only hear but listen (i.e. obey)
God’s Word that we will experience His blessing.
- Proverbs 1:32-33 HCSB For
the waywardness of the inexperienced will kill them, and the complacency
of fools will destroy them. But whoever listens to me will live securely
and be free from the fear of danger."
Many
will think that their way will be better - that somehow they know better than
omniscient God. They will seek to avoid their responsibility to Yahweh Shaphat
by simply denying that that accountability exists. But it is only when we trust
that the Lord has our good at heart and act as though one day we will answer to
Him that we will receive His soul-saving, life-changing guidance.
- Proverbs 3:5-7 HCSB Trust
in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own
understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on
the right paths. Don't consider yourself to be
wise; fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
It is only when a godly
fear came over the church that they experienced the fruitfulness that only the
Holy Spirit can give. It was only when they took care of each other and
answered to each other that they experienced d’vekut.
- Acts 2:42-47 HCSB And they
devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, to fellowship, to the
breaking of bread, and to prayers. Then fear came over everyone, and many
wonders and signs were being performed through the apostles. Now all the
believers were together and had everything in common. So they sold their
possessions and property and distributed the proceeds to all, as anyone
had a need. And every day they devoted themselves to meeting
together in the temple complex, and broke bread from house to house. They
ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and
having favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to them
those who were being saved.
This
is why we need to never miss meeting with other Christians. Even if we travel,
we should seek out other believers and encourage them by our presence. Mutual
accountability is a fundamental trait of Adonaic belief.
- Hebrews 10:24-25 HCSB And
let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good
works, not staying away from our meetings, as some habitually do, but
encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
