Astrology

Astrology is a divination art, which teaches that the relative positioning in the sky of the Sun, Moon and planets has an influence upon individuals and upon the course of human affairs. The actual word for astrology in the Hebrew language literally means, ‘divining the heavens'. Divination is the act of foretelling future events, or of revealing secret knowledge, by means of signs and omens or other supernatural agency.

Those who consult with astrologers and use astrology for guidance in their lives will be worn out and consumed like stubble. They will not find salvation or deliverance.

  • Isaiah 47:13-15 HCSB  You are worn out with your many consultations. So let them stand and save you--the astrologers, who observe the stars, who predict monthly what will happen to you.  14  Look, they are like stubble; fire burns them up. They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. This is not a coal for warming themselves, or a fire to sit beside!  15  This is what they are to you--those who have wearied you and have traded with you from your youth--each wanders on his own way; no one can save you.

God prohibits the practice of divination.

  • Leviticus 19:26 HCSB  "You are not to eat anything with blood in it. You are not to practice divination or sorcery.

When the Israelites were about to enter the Promised Land of Canaan, God warned them not to practice it.

  • Deuteronomy 18:9 HCSB  "When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable customs of those nations.
  • Deuteronomy 18:12-14 HCSB  Everyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you because of these detestable things.  13  You must be blameless before the LORD your God.  14  Though these nations you are about to drive out listen to fortune-tellers and diviners, the LORD your God has not permitted you to do this.

Divination is actually regarded to be a grave sin. It is rebellion against God’s authority.

  • 1 Samuel 15:23 HCSB  For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and defiance is like wickedness and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has rejected you as king.

When King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, he summoned the magicians, sorcerers and astrologers to tell him what he had dreamed. They were useless.

  • Daniel 2:10 HCSB  The Chaldeans answered the king, "No one on earth can make known what the king requests. Consequently, no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any diviner-priest, medium, or Chaldean.

The astrologers of Babylon were unable to help the King with this troublesome dream. However, God had blessed his prayerful prophet Daniel with the true gifts of the Holy Spirit, and he was brought before the king to interpret the dream. With God’s anointing, Daniel was able to describe and explain the king's prophetic dream.

  • Daniel 2:27-28 HCSB  Daniel answered the king: "No wise man, medium, diviner-priest, or astrologer is able to make known to the king the mystery he asked about.  28  But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and He has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will happen in the last days. Your dream and the visions that came into your mind as you lay in bed were these:
