Humility
(see also developing
humility)
Pride has its own
inherent vulnerability.
- 1 Corinthians 10:12 HCSB (12)
Therefore, whoever thinks he stands must be careful not to fall!
Pride is dangerous.
- Proverbs 16:18 HCSB Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant
spirit before a fall.
God sets himself
against the proud.
- 1 Peter 5:5-6 HCSB Likewise, you younger men, be subject to the
elders. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another,
because God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. (6)
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that
He may exalt you in due time,
Pride can cut us off
from God and from others.
- Luke 18:13-14 HCSB "But
the tax collector, standing far off, would not even raise his eyes to
heaven but kept striking his chest and saying, 'God, turn Your wrath from
me--a sinner!' (14) I tell you,
this one went down to his house justified rather than the other; because
everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself
will be exalted."
Childlike humility is
valued by heaven.
- Matthew 18:3-4 HCSB "I assure you," He said, "unless you are converted
and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
(4)
Therefore, whoever humbles himself like
this child--this one is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
The proud will be
disappointed.
- Matthew 23:12 HCSB Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles
himself will be exalted.
Humility brings
honor.
- Proverbs 29:23 HCSB A person's pride will humble him, but a
humble spirit will gain honor.
