Pride

Pride is dangerous.

• Proverbs 16:18, TLB. "Pride goes before destruction and haughtiness before a fall."

Humility brings honor.

• Proverbs 29:23, TLB. "Pride ends in a fall, while humility brings honor."

God sets himself against the proud.

• 1 Peter 5:5-6, TLB. "You younger men, follow the leadership of those who are older. And all of you serve each other with humble spirits, for God gives special blessings to those who are humble, but sets Himself against those who are proud. If you will humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, in His good time He will lift you up."

Pride can cut us off from God and from others.

• Luke 18:14, TLB. "I tell you, this sinner, not the Pharisee, returned home forgiven! For the proud shall be humbled, but the humble shall be honored."

Childlike humility is valued by heaven.

• Matthew 18:4, TLB. "Therefore anyone who humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven."

The proud will be disappointed.

• Matthew 23:12, TLB. "But those who think themselves great shall be disappointed and humbled; and those who humble themselves shall be exalted."

Those who are proud can fall.

• 1 Corinthians 10:12, NRSV. "So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall."
